Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Denver staff as a Sr. Transportation Design Engineer. The candidate will be involved on projects related to the CDOT and local municipalities. Under general direction, provides technical expertise for diverse highway engineering activities throughout the assigned area of responsibility and/or company-wide. May function as lead designer or technical consultant. Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct. Typical duties and responsibilities of this position are: • Defines scope of project, with full responsibility for interpreting, organizing and executing project assignments. • Conducts quality control checks, reviewing calculations, designs, evaluations and specifications developed by design staff for accuracy and completeness, performing on-site inspections and reviews, and conducting or overseeing remedial design work. • Keeps abreast of state-of-the-art methods and developments in area of specialization. • May function as the project manager or task manager for routine to semi-complex projects. Responsibilities may include marketing, negotiating contracts, budgeting, financial management, schedule coordination and resources allocation. • Performs project design, sketching design concepts to be developed by junior engineers, CADD designers or technicians. • Plans and reviews the production of engineering drawings, specifications, engineering investigations or planning work. • Analyzes technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques, procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions. • Coordinates work with project manager, and guides junior professionals and technical personnel on the design and drafting of preliminary and final plans. • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
