Mack Trucks Engineering Unit Manager-Product Introductions

Details: Summary:The purpose of this position is to manage the department responsible for the implementation of product engineering changes in the Macungie Facility and ensure that all affected groups are aware and prepared for the resulting product changes. Core Responsibilities: Manages the group that reads, organizes, and summarizes the product engineering changes scheduled for introduction and implementation in the Macungie Assembly Plant Presents product change information to Macungie management personnel including engineering, production, and quality personnel Identifies engineering errors in product structure or build and takes action to have them corrected before implementation Provides hands-on support to manufacturing as required to implement changes and introduce new product offerings Coordinates with corporate Product introduction teams regarding procurement, engineering, sales and marketing, parts and order management issues to manage impact of change Interfaces with the Front Office Team, a cross functional group that acts as the implementation control group for all product changes Leads in the coordination with Macungie manufacturing engineers and plant management to ensure that all affected parties are aware and prepared to timely implement product changes throughout the Plant Serves as a liaison on behalf of the Plant with procurement, engineering, sales and marketing, parts, and order management regarding issues arising out of the implementation or preparation for product changes Provides technical support to the production staff regarding manufacturing methods, processes and equipment and implementation of new product or product changes through advanced engineering analysis and problem solving Establishes and maintains the optimum production methods, material flow, layouts, standards, tooling and equipment for all assigned products and processes Collaborates with cross functional groups in Engineering and Materials in developing workable schedules and cost estimates, performing manufacturing design reviews, improving Bill of Material structures, and processing design development and prototype builds Leads the Mack Customer Pilot Inspection process for the manufacturing facility.  Including ensuring that the pilot vehicle is ready for inspection and that quality or engineering issues that arise during the process are resolved on the rest of the order Acts as the point of contact for all Highway Customer builds that are considered of critical importance to the plant Identifies and implements methods, processes and equipment using Lean Six Sigma methodology Interfaces with plant personnel to accomplish timing, manpower and production goals Uses lessons learned to develop processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency in area of responsibility Continuously evaluates and improves assembly efficiency through observation, investigation and critical problem solving Identifies opportunities for cost and manpower reductions through assembly configuration and improvement Identifies and follows up on project management opportunities to improve system and operational performance. Develop and maintain a set of KPI`s to monitor the effectiveness of product introductions and processes Critical Competencies: In depth knowledge of timing and manpower required to meet manufacturing specification and production goals Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to manage change Demonstrated knowledge of Bill of Materials structures and ability to critically evaluate and verify said structures Proven ability to visualize future opportunities, plan action items and lead team towards successful completion of company objectives Problem Solving/Decision Making: Taking a well-ordered approach to solving problems and acting despite obstacles, resistance or ambiguity Demonstrated knowledge of the manufacturing business and organization and ability to utilize policies, practices, trends, and tactics to accomplish business objectives within the organization Excellent computer skills: proficient in Excel, Power Point and Word. Ability to learn multiple different proprietary systems and applications Extensive knowledge of engineering concepts, manufacturing, the product, production standards and efficiency  optimization tools; process oriented Proven ability to react to issues impacting production with a sense of urgency, promptly assessing the issue and developing a feasible action plan and following it through to successful completion Project management and time management skills Experience in a team-based environment Strong negotiation Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proven ability to manage multiple conflicting projects to successful conclusion Proven ability to review and apply technical specifications and requirements to the assembly operation Possesses strong analytical skills and demonstrated focus on process and Lean Manufacturing concepts  Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering Master’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or similar field a plus Preferred: 7-10 years of manufacturing experience or equivalent with a focus on engineering and productionVolvo Group North America is an Equal Opportunity EmployerE.O.E./M/F/D/V
